Red Nails With Gold Stamping On Accent Nail

I did these simple yet classy nails for my sister who is also the mastermind behind most of my pictures.

I used Revolving Red from New York Color (NYC) and Born Pretty Stores gold 6ml stamping polish. I also used BPS diamond stamping plate. All topped off with a top coat from O.P.I.

Full Metal Jacket – NYC (Review)

Hi everyone, todays blog is going to be another nail polish review. Full Metal Jacket is the polish under the microscope. This colour is from NYCs’ In A New York Minute collection. I have already reviewed Bowery Black from this particular collection, click the link to go and read it – https://nailsbyannemariner.wordpress.com/2016/07/23/nyc-bowery-black/

NYC is a very well known cosmetics brand. It’s affordable and high quality. Click the link to go to NYCs’ website – https://www.newyorkcolor.com/us

I haven’t tried any other NYC nail polishes except the In A New York Minute collection. After trying these, I will certainly be investing in the others. You can find this particular polish on eBay for £2 – £5 (depending on seller, excludes postage rates.) Or, if you live in the USA, you may be able to find this and other NYC polishes at your local mainstream drugstore.

So, lets get on with the review. First of all… (SPOILER ALERT)

THIS IS A ONE COATER! You all know how excited I get over one coat wonders. 😀 They’re most nail artists dream. The consistency of this polish is more on the thin side, but it’s still relatively easy to control if you’re used to painting your nails.

Now, like most metallic/foil effect polishes, brush streaks are inevitable. But there are a few things you can do to decrease the clarity of those streaks.

  1. Stick to three strokes of the brush when applying this type of polish. This gives you proper coverage and limits streaks.
  2. Allow the polish to completely dry before doing any nail art or applying top coat. This allows the polish time to settle to the surface of your nail.
  3. Use a good quality top coat that is on the thicker side. If yours isn’t, apply two or three coats. A thicker top coat will fill in even the tiniest ridges in your polish whilst giving you a smooth and even look. I use O.P.Is’ top coat.

There will be a review of this top coat on my blog soon, so hit the follow button at the side of your screen. If you don’t have a WordPress account, (which I would suggest you do) you can sign up using your email address. 🙂

Full Metal Jacket is my favourite gold polish of all time. When applied properly, it is perfect! The drying time is only about a minute or so before you can begin nail art or apply top coat. Remember, if you don’t like the look of steaks, (which are incredibly subtle in this polish) you should leave it five to ten minutes before going on to the next step.

The only down side in my mind, is that without a good quality top coat, this polish chips very easily. But for the colour, this is totally worth it!

Here are my nails with one coat of Full Metal Jacket by NYC. (No top coat.)

NYC – Bowery Black

Hi everyone, today I’m going to be reviewing Bowery Black by NYC (New York Color.) This is one of my favourite nail varnishes of all time. It never fails me. It’s a black varnish with a silver shimmer. In person, the silver stands out quite a bit, but in the photo, it isn’t that noticeable.

This varnish is part of their In a New York Minute collection. This varnish can be found on most nail polish online shops for around £2 – £3. I got this one from eBay. The bottle is 9.7ml and is quite a thin consistency, but it is also fairly easy to work with. A lot of other thinner varnishes have a tendency to run down the sides of your nails and flood your cuticles. The only down side to this varnish is that on the first application, it is quite patchy. I found I had to work quite quickly with this as it dries very quickly. If you spend too much time working on the same nail, it becomes very streaky. So, in this case, less is certainly more. Here is one coat of Bowery Black.

The patches have disappeared! I would definitely say that this is more of a dark grey than a black. Once this dries, it’s very smooth. I can never work out if I’ve already top coated them! I will say that a thinner top coat will work better with this varnish. If you use a thicker one, it can make it look too thick.

So that was my review of Bowery Black by NYC. I hope this helped you!
